story puts spoiler warnings in as well which was hysterical.I was riveted.I ll re read it.Any comparisons may well turn out to be spoilers, so I hesitate to say what this book reminds me of For those with a nice twist to itThat was really well played NOT what I was expecting It s kind of like we started out with Mark Watney from The Martian, lost and alone, and with a sardonic sense of dark humor But then the story evolved into something farstrange and horrifying Gary Rendell is in deep space, separated from his crewmates, and wandering alone inside of an alien artifact in the area of Neptune, trying to find his way back It s a nightmarish place, dark and dangerous, with lots of things that want to That was really well played NOT what I was expecting It s kind of like we started out with Mark Watney from The Martian, lost and alone, and with a sardonic sense of dark humor But then the story evolved into something farstrange and horrifying Gary Rendell is in deep space, separated from his crewmates, and wandering alone inside of an alien artifact in the area of Neptune, trying to find his way back It s a nightmarish place, dark and dangerous, with lots of things that want to eat you The chapters alternate between his current wanderings meeting other alien inhabitants of the artifact and the backstory of how he got to where he is now.Major kudos to Tchaikovsky for all the literary references, including T.S Eliot and the one that s in the spoiler below Sci fi doesn t often challenge my vocabulary, but this one did, with words like pareidolia, floriate, and anagnorisis I abiding by the laws of physics and we ve discovered it behind Pluto.As these things go, once we finally get over our usual squabbling, we re still not really technologically advanced enough for any of this but like in the movie Prometheus we don t care and just wing it because this is always a good idea, right.Anyway, shit goes wrong, of course, and we follow Gary through the maze that is the interior of the froggy face, slowly piecing together what has happened and therefore, maybe, what...I had read a couple of this author s books already so I was expecting good things when I took up this one and I was not disappointed Not by a long shot It was exceptionally good.I loved the main character, Gary Rendell from Stevenage, with his snarky, sarcastic comments, his self deprecation and his spoiler alerts The concept of the tunnels leading to other universes was just brilliant and I enjoyed all the aliens including the Egg people and the Pyramid people Gary failed to attend the lec I had read a couple of this author s books already so I was expecting good things when I took up this one and I was not disappointed Not by a long shot It was exceptionally good.I loved the main character, Gary Rendell from Stevenage, with his snarky, sarcastic comments, his self deprecation and his spoiler alerts The concep...Brilliant As hilarious as it is terrifying.Somehow it reminded me
