Kadar regime I found this switching of viewpoints quite difficult to follow at first although the use of clearly different fonts helps a lot The writing, ho...I think that I would describe No Live Files Remain as the author s attempt to come to terms with the fact that his mother was what was known as a secret colleague during Hungary s Communist regime The story is told in many ways Meetings are reimagined, notes from her dossier are included, letters from the past are shared, and towards the end of the book, there is a section of poetry as well What makes the book particularly interesting is that the author s mother was born in Palestine in 192 I think that I would describe No Live Files Remain as the author s attempt to come to terms with the fact that his mother was what was known as a secret colleague during Hungary s Communist regime The story is told in many ways Meetings are reimagined, notes from her dossier are included, letters from the past are shared,...I was so pleased to have the chance to read this book, because my father is from Hungary, so I have a special interest in this book I loved it it read like a non fiction memior, but also like a novel I find that well written memoirs often do read like novels, because you get lost in the story, the same way you would in a novel The writing is evocative, and brought another time and place alive for me And it s an extraordinary story The author discovers that his Mother was an informer for I was so pleased to have the chance to read this book, because my father is from Hungary, so I have a special interest in this book I loved it it read like a non fiction memior, but also like a novel I find that well written memoirs often do read like novels, because you get lost in the story, the same way was a beautifully written and amazing book however I didn t understand the topic and then I couldn t appreciate the beauty of the book which I was reading.I found this book strangely intriguing as it highlights the notion that we never really know anyone completely I found myself feeling so sorry for Andras Forgach as he never really knew the actions of his mother or indeed his very ill father To Andras his mother was one person, but secretly she was another individual entirely, as was his father who struggled horrendously with mental illness I find it fascinating yet saddening how individuals the beginning section interesting but my interest with it drifted away after the first 50 or so pages as the story and the progression of the plot drifted away from me I tried to continue with it but i didn t...This book is very important not just for Hungary, but for all ex communist countries alike It is simply of outmost importance to come face to face with demons from the past, to understand the past better in order to start thinking about today, but also the future The novel is based on a true story the author really discovered his mother had been an informant during communist regime The
