conscious effort to getinto graphic novels In that time I ve discovered some real gems, and Ruins is among my favorites It appealed to me because of its environmental theme, but I found so muchto love For one thing, it s a simply gorgeous book, what with the embossed title on the cover and spine, the red edged pages, the built in ribbon bookmark, and the entomological drawings on the endpapers the politics, to the history, to the setting, to the complex realistic characters, to the relationship Wow Incredible.I really liked this book, even with all of its faults I particularly enjoy the breaking up of the book into parts, and how, with each segment, we see the migratory route of a single monarch butterfly As both Jan and David note, the two main characters are not super likable or interesting, and their relationship struggles don t make sense as the central focus of this big, beautiful book But the book s scope is both large and small And while there are some frustratingly over worn tropes about I really liked this book, even with all of its faults I particularly enjoy the breaking up of the book into parts, and how, with each segment, we see the migratory route of a single
